Day 1: Saturday, January 17, 2009
Depart home city for Washington, D.C., and be sure to wear your Joshua Expeditions t-shirt! In Washington, you値l enjoy a drive-by tour of Embassy Row and the National Cathedral, followed in the afternoon by a walking tour around the mall of the Washington, Jefferson and F. Roosevelt presidential memorials. You値l have dinner at a local restaurant and be able to do some shopping afterwards. The evening will close with check-in at the hotel and a time for devotions before lights out.
Day 2: Sunday, January 18, 2009
In the morning you値l enjoy a visit to Arlington National Cemetery where you will see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the spectacle of the changing of the guard ceremony. Before leaving Arlington, the group will drive by the Iwo Jima memorial, celebrating one of the most costly victories of World War II. After lunch, you will travel over to George Washington's home, Mt. Vernon, where you値l spend the afternoon exploring this fantastic plantation and its new visitor痴 center. The group will return to Washington for dinner and then travel to the hotel for a time of devotions and reflection.
Day 3: Monday, January 19, 2009
Following breakfast at the hotel, you will enjoy an exterior visit to the White House and take some time for photos and shopping with the local street vendors. In the afternoon, the group will visit the Capitol Building and then walk over to the Supreme Court. (Optional tours of the Supreme Court and White House interior must be arranged through a member of Congress.) You値l have an evening meal in the city before taking a walking tour of the war memorials, including those for World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, then the evening will close with devotions at the hotel.
Day 4: Tuesday, January 20, 2009
Breakfast will be served at the hotel before the group travels to the Smithsonian area for Inauguration activities. Inaugural events include the taking of the Oath of Office, the Presidential Inaugural address and the Parade along Pennsylvania Avenue. Afterward, you値l be able to visit the Smithsonian museum of your choice. This day will conclude with dinner and devotions back at the hotel.
Day 5: Wednesday, January 21, 2009
After breakfast, you will check out of the hotel and head for the downtown area to visit the National Archives and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Following lunch, the group will transfer to the airport for the flight back home.
