Day 1
You will arrive in Cancun and check into your hotel, then participate in an introductory Joshua Expeditions biology program. You will discuss plans, purpose and direction for this program. Students will be introduced to shark biology and their divine creation in this marine environment.
Day 2
Today the group will head out to the island of Holbox. This island is located directly north of Cancun by about 85 nautical miles, so most of the day will involve the taking of ferries and shuttles to this remote island. In the evening you will have opportunity for a night snorkel off the beach to explore the coral reefs and nocturnal creatures, including nurse sharks.
Day 3
Following breakfast you will go through a Chondricthes educational program that illuminates shark biology and their ecological niche. Afterward, the group will head out by boat to swim with the inhabitants of the ocean. After dinner you'll participate in a night wade and collections program before closing the day with a time of devotion.
If you travel during the months of June through August, you'll have a chance to see the largest fish in the ocean - the whale sharks. During this time whale sharks mate in this part of the world and are extremely docile, making them magnificent to swim with.
Day 4
After breakfast, you will explore the island and the bird sanctuary, where the group will discuss island botany and terrestrial organisms. These range from mangroves to the green heron. You will spend time discussing their impact on the marine environment before wrapping up your excursion with lunch on the island. The group will return to Cancun in the afternoon.
Day 5
After an early breakfast, you'll head to Xcaret, an Eco-Park on the Riviera Maya! Here you will be able to see all kinds of exotic animals and float down a lazy river.
Day 6
After breakfast, you'll head back to the airport for the flight home after an amazing trip to the Yucatán!
