Day 1
Depart your home city for Washington, D.C., where your Joshua Expeditions guide will meet you. Your first stop in the district will be the Smithsonian Museum, where you will have the opportunity to visit any of the museums open this day. Following dinner in the city, your group will set out on a walking tour of the presidential memorials, including those for Lincoln, Jefferson and FDR. After checking into the hotel for the night, the group will take some time for devotions and reflection on this first day's experience.
Day 2
The group will head downtown this morning for an exterior visit to the White House, where there will be time for photos and shopping among the local street vendors. You will enjoy lunch in the downtown area then take an exterior tour of the Capitol Building before heading over to the Supreme Court. You may have a chance to tour inside the court building if it is not in session. The afternoon will conclude with a visit to view the great architecture at the Library of Congress. You will again enjoy dinner in the city before setting out on a walking tour of the war memorials commemorating World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. The day will close with a time of devotions at the hotel. (Optional interior tours of the White House and the Capitol Building may be scheduled through your local member of Congress.)
Day 3
This morning you will visit Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to witness the solemn ceremony of the changing of the guard. Before departing Arlington, the group will drive by the Iwo Jima Memorial which commemorates one of the most costly victories of World War II. During the afternoon, you will visit George Washington's house at Mount Vernon, and then conclude the day with dinner and a time of devotion at the hotel.
Day 4
This will be a day for adventure in education at Colonial Williamsburg. You will discover what life was like during the 1800s as you participate in re-enactment exercises and hear tales from the local guides. In the afternoon you will have a chance to visit some of the museums and to enjoy the area’s unique shops before heading back to a tavern for a four-course meal. A night tour of Williamsburg will give you a unique understanding of colonial life. Your group can choose from a variety of available themes, such as a walking tour by lantern or the always popular ghost tour. Devotions will complete the day.
Day 5
Today your group will visit Jamestown for an extraordinary experience on the site of the first permanent English settlement in North America. You will learn about the customs and practices of the colonists and Native Americans, including the use of different tools and cooking methods. Your tour will include a visit to the Jamestown fort as well as the re-creation of the Susan Constant, one of the ships that first brought settlers from England to Virginia. Following lunch in the Jamestown area, the group will head to Yorktown to celebrate the American victory in its war for independence and then depart for the airport and the flight back home. (This final day’s activities will be subject to your airline schedule.)
