Day 1
Depart from the US and fly across the Atlantic toward Great Britain!
Day 2
You will meet your Joshua Expeditions guide at the airport in London, then head to your hotel to check in and freshen up. Your tour of London begins with four prominent churches, followed by a visit to the Temple Church, one of the oldest buildings in the city. This delightful round church, built by the Knights Templar in 1185, is tucked away in a quiet courtyard, just yards from the hurly burly of busy Fleet Street. Later, the group will travel to the "must-see" site of St Paul's Cathedral, Christopher Wren's classical masterpiece. Stopping for a break at St Martin-in-the-Fields, a classical church famous for the orchestra of the same name, you will have a chance to visit the basement crypt which is now a café! You will have some free time to explore the area before dinner and then the group will head back to the hotel for the evening.
Day 3
On your second day in London, the first stop will be Westminster Abbey, the premier church of the realm and burial place of many of Britain's monarchs. Later, you will enjoy the sites of Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the Royal Horse Guards and more. Dinner and devotions will close the day.
Day 4
Your exploration of London continues today as you follow the trails of Tyndale and Spurgeon and make a stop at the British Library to see a copy of the Gutenberg Bible. This busy day will conclude with devotions at the hotel.
Day 5
This morning the group departs from London and makes a first stop not too far from the city, in the beauty of the Chiltern Hills. It's here, in the heart of this quaint area, that you will find the original Quaker meeting house as well as the grave of William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania. The quiet simplicity of this 1600s building will contrast sharply with the later magnificence of the great Gothic cathedrals, and you will learn much about the Reformation and early Puritanism.
From here the group will take another short hop to the "dreaming spires" of Oxford, where you will visit New College Chapel and Christ Church Cathedral. Both cathedrals are situated in university colleges and both contain some unforgettable treasures, including a painting by El Greco and the inspiration for a great literary treasure, Alice in Wonderland. Christ Church will also bring you into contact with John Wesley who was educated and later taught here and whose portrait hangs with other luminaries in the imposing great hall of the college. Finally, the group will head back toward London, stopping outside the city for the night. Devotions will conclude this final night in England.
Day 6
After a memorable and meaningful week, you will head back home!
