Day 1: Departure
Board your flight to Africa!
Day 2
Following your night-time arrival in Johannesburg, the capital of South Africa, your group will head to the mission base. The evening will include a team meeting and brief orientation before lights out.
Day 3: Orientation and Preparation
The next two days will be spent preparing your heart and mind for the upcoming ministry days. Each morning after breakfast, you'll have quiet times and team devotions. The group will participate in team building activities and spend some time training for evangelism, children's clubs and other ministry opportunities. There will also be time to learn about the culture of South Africa so you can understand the people you are helping and be of better service.
Day 4
Today you will continue in preparation for the week's ministry opportunities. You'll want to gather as much knowledge and understanding as possible to assist you in evangelism and mission activities.
Day 5: Your Mission Experience
Each ministry day will begin with personal quiet time and team devotions. Afterward, you'll head out for the day to share the love of Christ through a variety of ministry opportunities. Today you might focus on Relationship Evangelism by building relationships through conversation and helping with household chores. Teams might also help plant a garden for each family as a tangible reminder of God's love and care for them.
Day 6
Folllowing a morning of personal quiet time and team devotions, you'll set out for another day of ministry within the community. Today's focus might be Children's Ministry, allowing teams to spend time with local children, teaching them the Word of God through songs, stories, games and other activities. (Curriculum will be provided.) At the end of the day you'll return to base for dinner, devotions and a team meeting before lights out.
Day 7
Your third day of ministry will begin with personal and team devotions, followed by a full day of ministry. You might find yourself participating in a Building Project where you will have the opportunity to assist with construction either on the base or in a local village. In the past, this has included building a playground for disabled children and basic maintenance around the camp. (Teams will usually fund any such projects they desire to be involved in.) The evening will close with a team meeting, dinner and group devotions.
Day 8
Following breakfast, you will have personal quiet time as well as a time for team devotions. Afterward, your team will continue in ministry to the community. You might find yourself ministering in local prisons, hospitals and mental hospitals. This can include singing, drama, sharing testimonies and one-on-one relationship building. At the end of a full day you'll head back to the base for dinner, devotions and a team meeting.
Day 9
Today is your final day of ministry within the community. After breakfast and a time for devotions, you'll set out with your team to serve the people you have come to know throughout the previous days. You might want to visit with the children or families you've met, or you may find time to help with a construction project. Share your faith and the love of Christ in everything you have opportunity to do. At the conclusion of the day, you will return to base for dinner and devotions.
Day 10: Sightseeing
Your next few days will be spent experiencing the unique sights of Africa. Following breakfast on this first day, you'll journey to the Lion Park, where you'll have the opportunity to go on a game drive and see zebra, giraffe, blesbok, springbok, gemsbok, black wildebeest and ostrich. You'll also see cheetahs and hyenas, as well as various lion prides. After lunch, you'll have a chance to get up close and personal with some lion cubs and maybe even feed them!
Day 11
After breakfast, the group will pack up and depart for Johannesburg and a lunch at Carnivore. While there you'll enjoy an assortment of meats grilled over a fire pit in the middle of the restaurant. In addition to beef, lamb, pork, ribs and sausages, you'll have the opportunity to taste crocodile, waterbuck, wildebeest, giraffe, impala, elephant, ostrich, hippo, warthog, hartebeest, buffalo, blesbuck, eland, sable and kudu. After lunch, the group will head to a safari lodge to spend the night. After getting settled, you'll go on a game drive for another look at some of Africa's unique wildlife.
Day 12: Depart for Home
On your last day in Africa, you'll wake up early for another safari ride and try to catch a glimpse of even more animals in the cool of the morning. Following breakfast, the group will depart for Johannesburg, making a quick stop for lunch and shopping in a traditional African market. Your flight back home will depart in the evening.
Day 13
After a fulfilling week of ministry, you will arrive back in the U.S.!
