What: The Bible gives us a perfect example of service missions in the book of Nehemiah. Nehemiah was a man who planted, cultivated, and harvested as he took on the vision to rebuild the wall of Israel. He went back to his homeland in order to reconstruct what was left in shambles. The project got underway with the gathering of materials from the king and from all over the land. All that was gathered was then delivered to Israel. Nehemiah showed his amazing leadership by bringing his nation together—families of men, women, and children—and having them work as one body, yet separate, until the entire wall was completed.
But not all of them had the same task. Not all were planters — praying in advance and supporting those who build. Not all were cultivators — delivering and assembling the materials to build. Not all were harvesters — taking what others had done and bringing it to completion.
Here is your opportunity to be a part of the Nehemiah Experience with Joshua Expeditions. Classes within your school join together and commit to taking on an eternal project in Romania, bringing it to completion in order to impact the community for Jesus Christ.
How it Works: Age groups in your school will be given a task to complete the full project. There will be three tasks:
-
Planting
-
Cultivating
-
Harvesting
Planting — As a tiller/planter goes before the planting season, plowing the soil and preparing it for planting in order to grow and bear much fruit, so will this group of people go before the others, preparing the way for them to bear spiritual fruit.
The first group may be young classmates and/or those who are not able to journey overseas to harvest the project. This group plays a crucial role in going before the project in prayer and continuing to pray for its completion and impact for Christ within the community. This group can also be involved in fundraising or supplying materials for the planters.
Cultivating — The next group may be middle school classmates or others capable of gathering materials and/or fundraising. They will not only pray for the project, but also help bring the materials together and hold fundraisers. Their involvement could also entail an invitation/celebration outreach within their community share the new project and the love of Christ.
Harvesting — This last group will continue working based off the work of the Planters and Cultivators. This could be your senior class or those having the means to go overseas. They will be the ambassadors to go overseas and complete the project. For example, they will assemble, build, paint, and/or put the finishing touches on the project. This could also be followed up with a celebration outreach with that community and the presentation of the Gospel.
When: The Nehemiah mission projects are not restricted to specific time frames. You may plan your project for any time throughout the year. Tilling and Cultivating will be ongoing in your school every year.
How: Sign up now! Make this your school tradition to be a part of the Nehemiah Experience and train your students on missions and its different elements. Call our McKinney office for more information.
We need you to make this happen! What a great example it will be for you to join together to reach a common goal:
-
To share the love of Jesus Christ through service ministry.
-
To be a blessing to the ministry that is helping facilitate the project in the community.
-
To exemplify the calling for us to work together as one body of Christ.
-
To teach your students what ministry is all about, how their service will have long-lasting impact in their hearts and in the community.
Additional Information: Pictures, journal entries, and souvenirs from the project will be collected by the Joshua Expeditions Guide during each group's involvement. Once the project is completed, a Nehemiah Experience DVD will be compiled from all three phases of the project and then given to the participating school. Start now and make it your school or class tradition to be a part of the Nehemiah Experience!
